AMERICA’S ATTITUDE
COMING INQUIRY BY TECHNICAL EXPERTS. ECONOMIC SITUATION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 31, 8.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 30. The State Department announces that Mr Houghton, United States Ambassador to Germany, at an informal luncheon to M. Krassin and M. Tchitcherin in Berlin, asked them what was the Soviet’s attitude towards the United States’ Commission of Technical Experts to study and report on the economic situation of Russia. The mission would be in no /sense political, and would act strictly in accordance with the outline of Mr Hughes’s policy when he replied to the invitation to the Genoa Conference. The information supplied by the Commission would aid the United States in determining what economic contribution it was able to make towards the reconstruction of Russia. . It is understood that the United States is concerned over the large concessions Russia has extended to foreign nations.
