Tbe art union drawing for the gold nuggets in connection with th<? recent “Joy Night,” given by the Commercial Travellers’ ana ‘Warehousemen's Association, of Wellington, took place yesterday, at 4 p.m., at the Commercial Travellers’ Club. Mr Arthur C. droll (president) and. Mr Thomas Inglia (horn, secretary), assisted by a dozen or more willing help ots, undertook the sorting of the very large number of tickets in the presence of members of the local Tress and of Polioe-Sergeant O’Neill, who watched the proceedings on behalf of the authorities. The winning number® were:—lst : prize, 7017, and 2nd prize, 8478. The identity of the first prize will not be known until the claimant appears, as unfortunately, the name and address of the purchaser of that ticket were not stated •on it. ■As to the second Srize, the winner was declared to bo liss K. B. Hyde, of 122, Taeman street. Wellington. Nothing could have been fairer than the method adopted for the drawing, the tickets being well mixed together in a large kit-hag, and an unknown lady being called an off the street to place her hand inside the bag and take out the two tickets in succession. The president of the association (Mr Croll), having reminded the members of the great success of the “JoyNight”' celebration at the Town Hall, the prooeeds of which are to apply to ■the fund for the dependents of the local unemployed, stated that, white all the figures were not yet in, the amount rawed would be well over £6OO. That Bplendid achievement, said Mr Croll, was due not to the members of the O.T.A. alone, but in very great measure, also, to the generous and whole-hearted support given to the movement-by the Wellington merchants and the public, large contributions to the fund having been made both in' goods and in cash, tbe merchants of the city especially deserving the-, grateful thanks of the entire community. - Mr Croll spoke feelingly of the selfeaorifiaing efforts made % the people who had participated in the “Joy Night" entertainment. A lot of credit and thanks was due. he said, to such men as the local “Charlie Chaplin,” who had gone to a lot of trouble for them, and who had in very largo measure contributed' to the evenings pleasure and great success.
