LOCAL CRICKET
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION MEETS TROPHIES FOR COMPETITION THIS SEASON. The usual executive meeting of the Wellington Crijsket Association "was held last evening, with Mr C. G. Wilson in the chair., The following members also were'.present:—Messrs W. G. Hughes, P. B. Broad, P. R. Fulton. J. Reid. K. A. Berry, W. A. Baker, F. Hewitt (hon. secretary), and H. Buck. A letter was read-from the ; Sports Protection League, suggesting the advisability of all the various Wellington sports bodies making an attempt to combine, to provide gome common place cif meeting in the nature of a room or series of rooms where the various sports activities could" be discussed. it was suggested that, suoh a combination might lead to a growing interest in all sports affairs. An offer was receiyed from the New Zealand Sports Service of three bats for eaqh grade for competition this season. The awards were to bo made: <1) To the .batsman making the highest aggregate ■ for the season; (2) to the bowler taking the highest number of wickets; and (3) to the wicket-keeper capturing the largest number of. wickets, .catching or stumping. ‘ • The New Zealand Sports' Service management were of opinion thot such method of awards would not be an incentive tft players to play‘ for averages, a thing which they did not wish, to encourage. It wae noted' that these prizes' were to be applied also to the senior end junior grades in the public schools. *
