UNDER-GRADE WHEAT

FARMERS WANT COUNTRY CLEARED.

INTENTIONS OF GOVERNMENT.

Mr G. Witty (Riccarton) called attention in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon to the following resolution passed by a local Farmers’ Union: “That the Government be asked, as an urgent matter, to find markets and shipping, and take steps to clear the country of undergrade wheat if possible.” The Hon. W. Nosworthy (Minister for Agriculture) stated that the Government had considered the matter, and he was not prepared at present to do more than he had already stated in the House.

Mr Witty asked if the Minister would regrade the wheat. There was much dissatisfaction with regard to the matter.

Mr Nosworthy replied that when the Government bad finished with the grading, there would be no reason for dissatisfaction. The Government would keep to the letter of its undertaking in the matter.
