BATHS FOR WELLINGTON
SITE AT CLYDE QUAY.
TURKISH, SLIPPER AND TEPID.
A sub-committee of the Baths and Reserves Committee of the City Council is investigating the possibility of providing up-to-date Turkish, elioper, and tepid ewimming baths at Clyde quay. A sum of £15,000 was raised by loan, for baths recently, and l in view of the fact that the private Turkish baths at present in use are to be closed down to permit of the widening of Manners street being carried ont, the matter of replacing them with municipal baths is considered by the council to' be urgent. It ib proposed that the new baths shall be erected on the site of the corporation yards at Clyde quay, and the point which the sub-committteo is now investigating is whether£ls,ooo will ho sufficient ,to allow of a tepid swimming pool -being provided as well as the other bathing accommodation. A full report on the probable cost of new and modern Turkish and hot salt water baths is now being prepared.
