WATERSIDE ELECTION

RESULTS OF POLLING. Polling was in progress throughout yesterday in connection with the election of office-bearers for the ensuing year of the 'Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union. Yesterday’s- polling was for the election of trie assistant-secretary, treasurer, vice-president, disputes committee, scrutineers, stevedores’ representatives (No- 1 section), and workers' representative, and Harbour Board representative, The counting of the votes was not completed last evening, but the returning officer, Mr J. Smart, who was assisted by Messrs R. J. Seal and E. Harrison, scrutineers, was able to announce the results of the polling for the election of assistant-secretary and treasurer, as follow: — Assistant-secretary—J. O. Johnson, 605 votes (elected); E. Rossi ter, 143; E. E. Canham, 124; T. P. Williams, 103; L. Hennessey, 63; H. 0. Nye, 55; D. Wild, 8. Johnson polled an absolute majority of 54 votes. Treasurer—B. Cooley, 492 votes (elected); H. J. Reynolds, 155; W. Connell, 148. Cooley secured an absolute majority of 93 votes. A total number of 1251 votes was recorded. The system of preferential voting was adopted, with first choice for election.
