TO TRY PLAYERS
PROPOSED RUGBY TRIBUNAL. OPINION OF REFEREES. At last evening’s meeting of the Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association, the chairman, Mr A. Nielsen, brought up the matter of the new propceal for a judicial committee to try players who have been ordered off the field. Mr Nielsen said that he had attended the last meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union, when a notice of motion had been presented to the effect that a judicial committee should be set up to try players who had been ordered off the field. Ho wished to report this to the Referees’ Association and to get the opinion of the association on the idea. The proposal was that the committee should consist of three — the chairman of the management committee, the chairman of the Referees’ Association, and another. Personally, Mr Nielsen did not think the chairman of the Referees’ Association should be on the committee, as he might have ocoasion to order a player off. In this way he might have to “order a player off, proaecute him, and execute him.” Mr H. Hylton said that one view was that the association should be represented on the committee, hut that it should not necessarily be the chairman. To leave it as “a representative” would get over the difficulty mentioned by the chairman. Mr D. McKenzie said the matter would have to go before the delegates, and he was of opinion they would not agree to the proposal. Mr Hylton moved that the association should approve of the appointment of a judicial committee,, and that the representation of tho Referees’ Association be left open, and that the appointment be left to the executive to deal with. Mr J. O’Sullivan moved an amendment that, in the opinion of the meeting, the chairman of' the association should be the representative on the tribunal. Mr Hylton’s motion was carried.
