reopened with free labour. VEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. OAMARU, July 3. The Pukeuri freezing works reopened today with a staff of 20 slaughtermen and a fall complement in the other departments. It is expected that about 600 sheep will he put through to-day. The slaughtermen, have had experience in Canterbury works. Killing is proceeding on the team system. AT SMITHFIELD STRIKERS’ PLACES FILLED. PE3 PRESS ASSOCIATION. TEVTA-RU, July 3. Work was resumed at Smithfield this morning with free labour. As at Pareora, the butchers and labourers are still standing out. GLASS OF APPLICANTS FIRST DAY KILL SATISFACTORY. PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. TTMARU, July 3. The killing at Smithfield and Pareora freezing works is 'being accomplished by four teams of thirteen men at each. It took some time to get all going, but at both works the applicants are nearly all intelligent young men, and ■they picked up their respective hits of duty well. Each works killed 700 in a short day, and everything was cleaned up and skins painted. The men expect to do from 1000 to 1200 to-mor-row. There are plenty of stock available. Two union butchers joined in at Pareora.
