Born in England in 1351, tho into Mr George was educated at Cheltenham College, and arrived in New Zealand in 1869. When the late Mr C. E. Button resigned his seat in Parliament for Hokitika, the vacancy waa contested by Mr George, and although he Tvne only in the electorate for six days he was successful. He proceeded north, and in 1882 successfully contested Rodney (Auckland), for which be was twice returned. He was Senior Liberal Whip for several years. Subsequently lip 6tood for Parnell, bnt was defeated. Ho was twice Mayor of Parnell. He was called to the Legislative Council in June, 1003, holding office until some years ago, when he retired. Deceased, who was one of the most prominent figures in the Auckland commercial world, married a niece of the late Sir George Grey.
