THE TAUPO TREMORS
MISUNDERSTANDING IN AUSTRALIA. The Internal Affairs Department has issued the following statement: —“Visitors from Sydney report that the Australian papers are making a big feature of the earthquakes and earth-rumblings which halve been occurring lately at Wairakei, Taupo and the vicinity; but, unfortunately, the disturbances are stated to have occurred ar> Rotorua. The disturbed area is, of couree, more than fifty miles distant from Rotorua. The latter town has not experienced any earthquakes, nor has there bee*, any unusual activity at the thermal regions there. The residents of Rotorua are under no apprehension wJhctever as to any possible occurrences there.”
