U.S.A. FOOD BILL
MEAT AND CATTLE SUBSTANTIAL INCREASES IN DUTY AGREED ON. THE PROBABLE EFFECT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian ami N Z. Cable Association (Received Juno 30, 12.10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 28. The Senato Tariff Committee has inthe various meat and cattle duties fixed by the House as follows: Cattle weighing 1050 pounds, from cents to 2 cents per ’ pound; cattle abovo 1050 pounds from 2 to 3£ cents; fresh beef and veal from 2 to 3J cents; sheep and goats are fixed at two dollars per head instead of ono cent per pound, as the House provided; fresh mutton from 1J to 21 cent. The changes were carried only after a violent partisan debate, in which the Democrats deolared that tho food hill of the American people would bo increased by many billions of dollars yearly.
