LATE MR S. UNDERWOOD
CITY COUNCIL’S REGRET. A motion of sympathy and condolence in connection with tho death of Councillor S. H. Underwood was harried by the City Council last evening. Tho Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright, M.P.) said that the late councillor wag deeply respected by every member. Ho devoted great attention to his municipal duties, and exercised great judgment in connection with city affairs. Upon the motion of the Mayor, the following motion was carried:—“That this council expresses its deepest regret and sorrow at the untimely death of tho late Councillor Underwood and places on record its highest appreciation of the keen and activo interest always displayed by him in carrying out his many civic duties; by liis unassuming and genial manner he held tho fullest respect and confidence of his brother councillors; that tho heartfelt sympathy of the council he extended to Mrs Underwood and family in their sad and irreparable bereavement.” Tho council thereupon adjourned for tho space of five minutes.
