PARLIAMENT OPENEB SPEECH FORESHADOWS RIGID ECONOMY. NO TAXATION RELIEF. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received June 28, 9.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 28. The Federal Parliament was opened with all pre-war ceremonial. The Governor-General’s Speech foreshadowed rigid eeonoany in the jiublic service and administration generally, an extension of commercial aviation services, and amendments to the Constitution to extend Federal powers. Although tlie revenue for tho year will exceed the estimates no taxation relief is indicated. Other legislation proposed includes the granting of representation in Parliament to the Northern Territory, an amendment of the Arbitration Act, arid rapid settlement of Canberra. SYDNEY June 28. At a meeting of tho Federal Cabinet, Mr W. M. Hughes hinted that" a reduction in taxation was likely, and that a board of directors to manage the Commonwealth Line of shipiiing would bo appointed. He also suggested proposals for a constitutional referendum to be held next elections.
