WAR RELIEF
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. PAST MONTH’S WORK. The monthly meeting of the Wellington War Relief Association was held Vesterday, the chairman, Mr L, O. H. Tripp, presiding. Thd finance committee reported that since the previous meeting it had dealt with seven oases each involving a sum in excess of £SO. The total involved was £9lB, of which £46 was previously awarded as a grant to a very badly disabled soldier remained unaltered. Sus. pension of payment of loans for varying periods had been approved in four oases In one of the three remaining oases a grant for cost of release of a second mortgage was approved, a loan of £IOO having been repaid in full Two new claims had been favourably considered, the total of £122 approved being iopresented by an advance of £6O to a poultry farmer, and £62 in rospect to the purchase of a residential property. Balances at the tank as at May 31st totalled £2855 8s lid, investments amounted to £41,522 18s lOd, making total available funds of £44,408 7s 9d. The chairman stated that a certain number of claims were still being received. Several of these had been turned down during the month, principally unemployment cases. The applications committee reported that ii had dealt with 253 applications during the month; the total number received was 387. There were 134 oSses still under action. Eetween May 28th and June 28th, 435 persons hod called at the office, 218 applying for direct assistance and 217 for indirect assistance and s.dvice npon, various subjects. The reports were adopted.
