ON THE MAORI
ALLEGED ROBBERY OF M.P. ACCUSED REMANDED. James Joseph Roche, said to be a railway employee, appeared before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday, charged with committing theft of a brief bag and contents from Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P. The theft was alleged to have taken place on the ferry steamer Maori on Tuesday last. The bag and contents were valued at £6 10s. On the request of the police, the man was remanded until June 30th. Mr H. F. O’Leary, who appeared for the accused, stated that he was employed at Wanganui, had been on a visit to Christchurch, and was on board the Maori on his way- back. The remand was granted, and bail was fixed at £25.
