In reply to a question raised relative to tie supply of milk in quantities less than one pint, the general manager of the Municipal Milk Department states that it is not intended to bottle milk in quantities of less than one pint, for the reason that it is not economical to put up and deliver milk in lesser quantities, but it is pointed out that half-pint _ lots are obtainable tfrom licensed dairies tor cash if such be required. Furthermore, in the case of single persons living in rooms, it is thought that ill most- cases it could be arranged for those in the one house to divide, say one pint hotties, and share the cost of same; and, if so. this should get over this difficulty. . With milk at a loner price (and an announcement in this connection is to be made shortly) expenditure on lots of one pint daily should only amount to a small sum weekly, and, considering that practically no other article offers the same food value for the money expended, householders would do well to consider this aspect of the case and not unduly limit themselves in the use of this most valuable food; Until the metal coupons ordered from England come to hand by the Ruahine m about three weeks’ time, paper coupons will be used. The metal coupons will vary in size according to the quantity of milk required by the householder. The quart coupon, a sample of which has been received, is about the size of a shilling, hut differs materially from the appearance of that coin. Tho edge is not milled. On one side there is stamped the words “One Quart” in capital letters, and the reverse side is embossed with the arms of the city of Wellington. The coupon system will reduce to a minimum the enormous amount of clerical work ordinarily required to conduct a business of the magnitude of the milk department.
