CATHOLIC MISSION
LARGE- CONGREGATIONS ATTEND. A mission conducted by the Marist Missionary (Fathers McCarthy, Eoclelon, and O’Leary), and opened at the new Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Boulcott street, on Sunday week, has attracted immense congregations each night. The missioners, in vtlie opening addresses, dealt with the basic truths, the purpose of man’s existence, "Sin, Death, and Judgment." They then passed on to elaborate and explain Catholio teaching relative to justification, the repair of the spiritual ravages of sin; the strengthening of the soul in its warfare against its enemies, and the fortifying of the Christian for the assaults invited ty human weakness and human malice. The doctrine of the church regarding the 6acaxment of penance was in this series made clear. The position and office of Blessed Virgin as Mother of God and as man’s most nowerful mediator of intercession were defined and cleared of misconception. Last evening a crowded congregation heard the Church’s teaching on the Eucharist, as a Sacrifice, the daily renewal of Calvary, and as Sacrament. What the Catholic Church means by "Faith" was treated on last Sunday night. On the evenings yet remaining the subjects of the significance of "Our Lord’s Passion and Death,” "Prayer.” and what is implied by the term "Church" are to be discussed. The morning masses at 6. 7, and 9 have brought big congregations, it 6.30 and 9.90 each morning instruction has beer given on the practical use of the Scorn ments. on "Particular Dangers.” on "TV Commandments," "The Mass," and "Christian Charity.” The average attendance each evenin'has been well over a thousand.
