LOCAL ROCKET GEAR
SENT TO AUCKLAND BY SPECIAL TRAIN. At 12.15 yesterday the Marine Department approached the Wellington Harbour Board and asked if it would allow its special rocket apparatus to bo sent to Auckland, to be used in the rescue of the crew of the Wiltshire. The chairman of the board (Mr J. G. Harknese) promptly consented, and, although it was too late to dispatch tho apparatus by tho Main Trunk train, the Railway Department put on a special train, which left Thorndon for Auckland with the equipment at 2 p.m. The special train should arrive in Auckland this morning immediately after the Main Trunk express. The prompt dispatch of tho gear as highly commendable, and the action of the Harbour Board and Railway Department is very highly snoken of. .
