MANAW4TU DEFEAT OTAKI. A correspondent writes regarding the above match:—"The Qtaki team were all at sea on the long flat holes in Palmerston on Saturday, and suffered defeat at the hands of the Manawatu. player* by 9 games to 1. Many of the games were well fought,., and the visitors were only beaten on the last greens. Sievers, whose long-distance drives suited the links, defeated Cooper, the first player for Manawatu, one up. The ladies’ medal round on Saturday resulted in a very easy win for Miss Cell nett., her net score.. 71, being nine strokes under the bogey of the course. This player is still improving l , her game, and will be a hard competitor to defeat in the championships this season. Many visitors are enjoying off daye on our links this winter, and the olub Is collecting quite a good ®um in green fees. Heard outside the pavilion recently : Visitor (taking his clubs from the caddy): "Worst round I have ever played!’’ Caddy: "Oh, you have played before, sir?”
