PALMERSTON NORTH
GENERAL JOTTINGS. (Special to “N.Z. Times.”) At a special meeting of the Palmerston North Nurserymen’s Council, held on Monday, reference was made to the rapid increase of new pests and diseases in New Zealand. A resolution was passed, and ordered to be sent on to the Minister for Agriculture, protesting against the removal of the embargo on Australian fruit trees until effective, quarantine regulations are adopted on the lines of the well-known U.S.A. quarantine regulation No. 37. Mr G. A. Green, national secretary, stated that it was anticipated that 1,000,000 fruit trees would be planted in the Nelson district this winter.
Ho'use property in Palmerston North is still receiving a good deal of inquiry. Farms, however, are without much inquiry owing to the high prices asked.
The Mayor of Palmerston North stated that there would be no unemployment in about a month’s time for any man in Palmerston North who could do day’s work. The new gasworks and the electrical power station u'ould involve a large amount of labour.
