Air Hughes, speaking at Cairns, dealt with the national aspect of the sugar industry in relation to a white Australian policy. Hq declared it was the only industry that could people Northern Australia. He was quite satisfied from whait he had seen that tho tropical north could lie settled and occupied by men and women of the British race. He characterised as infamous the statements that the fai north was unsuitable for white settlement.
