WAR IN CHINA
HOSTILITIES RESUMED. ATTEAIPT TO ENCTHCLE CHANG’S FORCES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Alay 30, 7.55 p.m.) PEKIN, May 29. The resumption of hostilities between Chang Tso-lin and Wu-Pei-Fu on a large scale appears imminent. The former succeeded in defeating the rebel forces in Alanchuria who were guarding the Chinese Eastern railway. In the meantime Wu-Pei-Fu’s forces are attempting to encircle Chang's army, and is hoping to control the situation in Manchuria before the Japanese consider it necessary to take steps to safeguard foreign interests.
