FINANCIAL CRISIS
CHINESE GOVERNMENT El TROUBLE. NO MONEY TO MEET CURRENT EXPENSES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 30, 11.5 p.m.) PEKIN, May 29. The Government is facing a financial crisis, and is not able to meet current expenses. The Finance Minister appealed to the provinces to remit the revenue due to the Federal Government, which they are retaining for local use. A million dollars are needed by June let to pay Government employees, and only a few thousand dollars are left in the Treasury. Tho political situation is uncertain. Members of the old Parliament are assembling at Tientsin and Canton in anticipation that they may eoon be called upon to assume the direction of the country’s affairs.
