“DETERMINED TO BECOME MISTRESS.” Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 30, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 29. Sir Joseph Cook, High Commissioner for Australia, attended a levee, and afterwards had luncheon with a numerous company at Australia House, in order to meet Viscount Novar, a former Governor-General of Australia, and Mr John McWliae, Agent-General for Victoria. During the course of a lecture to the British Women’s Patriotic Society, Sir Joseph Cook aid that Australia had pointed out that Japan was determined to become mistress of the Pacific, and it would bo impossible for Australia to retain the continent unless it was adequately populated. Immigration, he said, was the only possible solution.
