AT PALMERSTON NORTH.
SUBSIDY OF £1 FOR £l. . The Palmerston North Returned Sol* diers’ Association waited upon the local Borough Council (writes the “Times’’ correspondent), and stated that they had Poppy Day money in hand, and did not want to make charity doles to the men. but wanted local bodies to supply them with work of a productive nature. \Xhe engineer was instructed to bring down a report to the next meeting of the council as to the amount of suitable work available within the borough. It was decided to subsidise £1 for £1 whatever sum is subscribed by the Returned Soldiers' Association.
