POPPY DAY FUNDS
SOLDIER UNEMPLOYMENT. DEPUTATION TO THE MAYOR. Tho Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright, M.P.) b to receive a deputation to-day in regard to the Poppy Day funds. Proposal* for expending the money are contained in the following latter received by the Mayor:— "The following resolution was passed at a district meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association, held at Palmerston North on the 14th instant: "(1) That a committee be set.np, comprised of four returned soldiers and three civilians to allocate and control the Poppy Day fnnds. the secretary of the Wellington District Association to act as secretary to this committee. "(2) That each association in whose area there are unemployed returned soldiers is invited to apply for a grant from such funds, the application to state la) the number of soldiers out of work; (b) the number married, single, or with dependents; (c) the work proposed to be done; (d) the body through which the work is to he done; (e) the subsidy which such local body will give. "(3) Such application to be in the hands of the secretary by June 10th, 1922.
"(4> That the committee meet in Palmerston North as early as it is possible to arrange, after June 10th, to allocate the funds applied for, and that any expenses incurred be a charge on the funds.
‘.'This wfill probably mean that an amount in the neighbourhood of .£BOO will be available to be spent for the rend of unemployed returned soldiers in and around Wellington. At a meeting of my executive last evening I was instructed to communicate with yon asking you to receive a deputation from my executive with a view to discussing this matter. I would be glad, therefore, if you would let me know when you will receive the deputation.—(Signed), fiMitchell/'
