- O PROBLEM DISCUSSED IN SYDNEY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—CopyriglitSYDNEY, May 2D. A deputation from the Hospitals' Association asked the Chief Secretary, Mr C. W. Oakes, for financial assistance m the direction of some compulsory system of payment, and suggested that the Government should pay a £1 for £1 subsidy. The Hospitals Conference has decided, it was stated, that in the event of a compulsory system being int reduced. each district should bo allowed the right of continuing the voluntary system if it wished to do so. Mr Oakes replied that tho department was hard put to it to eopo with tho demands upon it, but promised an investigation to ascertain what could he done.
