HARRIERS
WELLINGTON CLUB. The Wellington Club held its two mile? and a 'half Novice Handicap on Saturday, when members were guests of Mr Ellison, of One street. Miramar. Unfortunately, those in charge of the trail set a course which must have been well over two miles and a half, as the fastest time was 2lmin 4sec. The extra distance was all against the limit men. Sixteen runners faced the starter, Mr A. G. Hilliker, and the limit man, lion Watson, soon established a big lead, which he 'held for about two miles. T. Carter and/ J). Williams were his nearest attendants, and the scratch man was fast gaining ground. When the turn was made for home, R. Morton took the lead from R. Spence, the limit man dropping out; and Alorton went on to win by about thirty yards from Spence, and T. Carter beat B. Williams by two yards for third place. Despite the rough weather and a heavy course, some of the runners ran a great race, although most of them appeared to make the pace too hot over tbp first part. The actual placings were : —R. Alorton (scr), 1; R. Spence (15pec), 2; T. Carter (85sec), 3. Other starters to finish wereE. Williams, C. Devereux, J. Young, and R. Watson. Several of the old members of the club were present, and acted as officials.
