LADIES' FOOTBALL
USE OF CITY RESERVES. DEPUTATION TQ COMMITTEE. The City Council, in granting the use of reserves for football this season, added a proviso that ladies should not bo allowed to use the grounds for the purpose of playing football. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Wells and Auld, representing the Wellington Football Association, and Air Bird (president of the Aotea Ladies’ Football Club) waited on the reserves committee yesterday. Mr Wells, in introducing the reputation, said that the Aotea Ladies’ Football club was affiliated to the Wellington Footb *1 Association, and last season had played on several of the city reserves, ai>d no complaints as regards their dress or behaviour had reached his association. Ho pointed out that the game as played was no more dangerous than the game of hockey. Mr Bird said that last season the girls had played every week, and no injuries had been received. The membership wns now SO, and a junior team was being formed at Petone. The strictest supervision was exercised before allowing a girl to become a member of the club. In two instances, ne stated, members had benefited by the exercise on Saturday afternoons. Mr Auld said the club had paid visits to Christchurch and Napier last season. The girls had made many friends on these trips and were looking forward to return visits, this season, when they hoped to be able to repay the many kindnesses shown them. He trusted that the committee would be able to reconsider their decision. The committee’s decision was reserved.
