MOTORS COLLIDE
QN THE HTJTT ROAD. DRIVER'S NARROW ESCAPE. A rather unusual collision between two motor-cars occurred at Ngahanranga yesterday afternoon. A taxidriver named George Christie was proceeding to the Upper Hutt with a fare. Ahead of him he saw a motor track and a Ford car both facing in the same direction- and ■■ lying agonist tbe kerb. Christie sounded his horn on approaching, and at the same instant, it is alleged, a man named Frederick, seated in the Ford, swerved it round and drove out into the road. Christie considered that prompt action was necessary to avoid a crash. He rammed down the accelerator and shot ahead, but saw that a collision must ensue and then put on his brakes. Hie Ford hit his Hudson on the side like a battering-ram, the two front wheels of the -lighter car-flew over the running hoard, which was broken, two spare tyres were ripped off the side, and other damage suffered by Christie’s car. The total damage is estimated at about £SO, while the Ford escaped with a few minor injuries, which may total about £6. The matter ia hoing investigated by the police.
