A crowd had gathered, and watched the struggle between the man and the police. He was powerfully built, and, despite hi 9 physical affliction, exhibited great strength. Inquiry at the Taranaki street police station last night elicited the information that the police considered it necessary to Tate what action they did. The man was. still in the cePe, and would be charged with drunkenness this morning. “We have had several inquiries about this man’s case to-day,” said the officer spoken to last night.
