CHRISTCHURCH, March 18. u ith tiie object of enabling moral instruction to be given in the schools the Canterbury Education Board has passed a resolution that, except as provided, the ordinary hours of instruction nr«every district or aided school in the Canterbury education district shall in the case of all standard classes be five Jiours each clay during five days in each week, but for the preparatory classes they need uot exceed four hours, and that- teaching shall be entirely of a secular character; provided that in tho schools -in- which the committee may desire to make provision for special instruction to supplement the course of moral instruction prescribed in clause 48 of the. regulations for inspection and examination of schools, the ordinary hours of instruction shall be not less than four and a half hours'each day/ on five days of each Week,, during which time tlie teaching shall be entirely of a secular character.
