AT THE TROTS
MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED THEFT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND October JBPhilip McManus, with six aliases p leaded not guilty and was committed for trial, to-day, on a charge of attempting to steal from the person at the Auckland Trotting Chib’s meeting, a wallet containing £52 and a totabBator ticket for £5. Evidence given by Cecil Marsh, leading cook of the cruiser Philomel, was to the effect that he saw the accused’s band across liis chest with the wallet half ont of his pocket. He grabbed him, but the accused bolted, and was followed by a detective, who arrested him. McManus war; remanded for a week on a charge of absconding from bail on February 21st, 1910, when he was committed to the Supreme Court far sentence for theft from the person.
