MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND MAINTENANCE • CASES. “I’ll be tried right here all right, I guess,” said.a stockily-built coloured man named William Hall, with an American accent, when appearing before Mr F. K. Hunt, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, being found by night in an outhouse in Wakefield street. The accused said he had joined an American boat and become stranded, and consequently he “guessed” he did the best he* could for himself in finding a place where he could lay his weary head oh. Bartholomew Mahoney was fined ■ss for a first offence of drunkenness, and for a, breach of his prohibition order he was fined £l. Bert McKay, who pleaded guilty to using obscene language and to resisting Constable Edwards in the execution of his duty, was fined 40s on the first charge and 60s on the second, the penalty for the default being fixed at fourteen days’ imprisonment. A REMAND. A remand was granted until November 7th in the case of George Redpath, who was charged with obtaining a wristlet watch valued at £5 10s, and £4 10s in money from Robert Fullerton Steele, by means of a valueless cheque. MAINTENANCE OASES. Charles S. Nicholas wus ordered to pay 15s per week in respect to a maintenance order in favour of his wife, and also to pay the solicitor’s fee, £1 Is. Arthur A. Merrie is to pay the sum of £2- 5s weekly, and to pay past maintenance, £ll ss. Joshua Baird is to pay the sum of 30s weekly. He was also ordered to pay the solicitor’s fee of £1 Is. Walter.. G. Burton was ordered to contribute the sum of £2 weekly as maintenance, and to pay solicitor’s fee.
