OBITUARY

REGISTRAR-GENERAL OF LANDS.

The Registrar-General of Lands and Deeds, Wellington. (Mr W. Wyinks) died in a private hospital' yesterday morning. His death; which was somewhat sudden in character, is understood to be due to heart trouble. The late Mr Wyinks had recently completed his 43rd year in the Service, of which he was a highly-honoured, in fact, well-beloved member. Hh served throughout in the Land Transfes- | Department, which he joined in Dunedin as clerk. Eventually he qualified ! for the law in that city, and was then transferred to Invercargill as district land registrar. Later he returned to Dunedin as land registrar, and afterwards he served far some four yeans in the same capacity at Christchurch. He was appointed Registrar-Genera 1 on the retirement of Mr G. G. Bridges in 1918,, and retained that position l up to his death. In his young days Mr Wyinks was a great all-round athlete, a noted cricketer, an interprovinoial Rugby representative, and a member of the Union Rugby dub, Dunedin. In his latter years hue was an enthusiastic golfer and fisherman. “He was loved by all the staff,'' stated a wellknown public servant to a “Time*” representative yesterday, “and considered, .to he the best Registrar-General we ever had.”
