BUTTER DECONTROL
WHAT WILL POSITION BE? CABINET’S CONSIDERATION OF THE QUESTION. WAITING MR MASSEY’S RETURN. The attention of the Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell) was drawn by a “Times” representative yesterday afternoon to the resolution moved by Mr E. McPadden (Buller) at that morning’s meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union conference, “That theGovernment be asked to legislate to prevent speculation in butter when the butter control expires,” and to the amendment eventually passed by the conference, “That this conference affirms the principle of retail prices being governed by competition, and the ordinary supply and demand of the articles.”
The Minister stated, however, that he was not in a position to make any statement in regard to the matter. It is understood that the question as to what will be the position when the butter control ceases lias been considered to a certain extent by Cabinet But nothing has been decided as yet; nor is anything likely to be settled until after Mr Massey’s return to *New Zealand.
