COWARDLY ASSAULT
MAGISTRATE IMPOSES FINE. “We cannot have this kind of assault,” said the magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M.) yesterday, when James Stevens appeared on an information of having unlawfully assaulted Francis L. Eden. For the complainant, Mr G. Watson stated that the assault had been a most cowardly one, For the defendant, Mr W. E. Leicester said that his client had acted under extreme provocation. His Worship imposed a fine of £6 and costs, and ordered half of the amount to be paid 'to the complainant.
