INDIA’S STATUS
DESIRE FOR EQUAL PARTNERSHIP. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 27. Mr Sastri, speaking at the Lord Mayor’s luneheen, said that he and the Maharaja of Outch have come to England to ask thgut- India’s status as an equal partner in the Empire should be recognised, not merely in the United Kingdom, where there was no deduction whatever, but with equal warmth and readiness all over the Empire. “We axe under no delusions as to the difficulties to he encountered before this is accomplished. We are fully aware of the peculiar circumstances in parts of the Empire where tihe meaning of ‘Empire’ is not fully understood, where more education is necessary before the electorates understand the significance of the lofty ideals of equality and brotherhood upon which the Empire is based. We have learned the lesson of patience, which conquers difficulties, and hope the citizens of the United Kingdom will help us in seeking perfect and undiminished equality with the rest of the Empire.”
