BIG CONFERENCE TO-DAY

THE FARMERS’ UNIOH IMPORTANT PEOPOSAIiS TO BE DISCUSSED. A SUGGESTED REVISION. The annual conference of the New Zea land Farmers' Union will open in Wellington this morning:. Delegates will be present from all parts of tne Dominion. There is a long list of remits to be dealt with, and it is expected, tne conference will last several days. Among the matters for consideration is a proposal completely revise the objects, platform, and rules of the union. One plank is to keep and maintain a vigilant, watch on all legislative measures brought* before Parliament, and to protest against such measures as- are deemed injurious to farmers’ interests. To secure the proper representation of the farming community in Parliament by supporting those candidates who agree to the platform of tjhe union, and who jindertake to place the interests of the union above those of party. Other proposals are to foster interests', of all farmers, including sheepfarmers, dairy-farmers, graziers, graingrowers, fruit-growers, bee-keepers, orcb'ardists, .poultry-farmers, etc., To encourage co-operation amongst its members. To promote the opening up and settlement' of Crown and. native lands. To encourage the formation and improvement of the means of communication. To assist in placing the sale of produce and the charges for material required by farmers on a satisfactory basis. To obtain reasonable freights on all produce bv rail and by sea. To produce and hold land, and to sell the same from time to time if thought necessary, for the purpose of providing meeting places, clubs, and rest rooms for the use of members and others. To encourage the establishment of seed-growing associations, boys’ and girls’ farm clubs, experimental and research establishments, or other similar organisations calculated bo (benefit the members of the union and, farmers generally.
