IMPORTANT WORKS
HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEMES TENDERS INVOLVING EXPENDITURE OF £300,000. SUPPLY OF PLANT. Within the next few months a number of tenders far material for hydroelectric power schemes and bridge work required by the Public Works Department will close, and the estimated aggregate amount of expenditure involved will be close on £300,000. The largest contract will be that for the supply of electrical plant for the Mangahao hydro-electric power scheme, the cost of which material will probably be within the vicinity of a quarter of a million sterling. The tenders for the supply of this material close on November 29th, and those for the pipe line, which is a separate contract, on Novemiber Ist.
On August 9th tenders for the supply of insulators for section 33 of the Waikato power scheme close, the estimated cost of Which is approximately £25,000. The estimated cost of the supply of insulators required' for section 103 of the Lake Coleridge power scheme, tender® for which close on the same date, amounts to £IB,OOO. In addition to the material mentioned, upwards of £7OOO of plate girder spans are required for tile Rangitaiki bridge, and a further supply for the Waaroa-Waikokopu railway bridges.
