A “house” system has been adapted in connection with. the Wellington XechiMJcal School. At last night’s meetof the school board the director’s report contained the following:—“With regard to the ‘house’ system which we have adopted in the school, it was interesting to note in a recent English paper that this plan is being adopted with quite young children in some of the London primary schools. A visitor to one of tlie schools was struck by noticing the little ones wearing favours of different colours and on asking one of them what it meant was told, These are our ‘house’ colours. When the inquiry was made what was her ‘house,’ the little one was At a loss to explain, but said finally, ‘Oh, we have to help one another in the “house.” ’ It is a suggestive fact that ah East End .primary school should be adopting as far as may be possible the organisation of Eton and Harrow. _lt has been decided that instead' of -having separate ‘houses’ for boys and girls, joint ‘houses’ should be -arranged, and that a shield shall be awarded to the 1101180’ which gains the highest aggregate ot points m games and athletics throughout the year. The names of the ‘houses’ were selected from a number of those of distinguished Now Zealanders by the -staff and the school council, and it- is interesting t-o note that the following names were selected and in this order: Wilding, Seddon, Wakefield and Bowen.” A tenge number of officers of the New Zealand Army Medical Department have been transferred to the New Zealand Medical Corps.
