TOTAL AMOUNT NOW £116,837. “Owing to 'another £30,000 Having been received from England for the N.Z.E.F. canteen “and regimental fund,” said the Minister for Defence (Sir Heaton Rhodes) to a “Times” representative yesterday, “it may oe opportune to make pulblic the present position of the fund, which is administered by the Canteen Trust Fund Board. The fund' is made up as fallows:— Egypt £1773; France £22,953 5s Id; Samoa £737 15s 8d; United Kingdom £29,165 7s 8d (lees advances for writing regimenta-l histories £2125 3s 6d), £27,040 ‘4s 2d; from British Expeditionary Force canteen, funds, proportion due to New Zealand £18,588 T9s 8d; further misceillaueous receipts £45,016 17® 2d; interest on investment of £70,000 from May 29th, 1920 to September Ist, 1920, £728 15s 2d total, £116,837 16e lid. “Of 'this total £70,000 is invested by the Treasury in 4 per cent, debentures under the Dosanarged Settlement Loans Act, 1919. The additional £30,000 recently received 1 _ and included in the ‘miscellaneous receipts’ mentioned above is earning interest in the Treasury pending action by the board as to its investment. The balance of the total is hold by the Treasury at call to meet current expenses for histories, etc., as determined by the board. “The total amount received from New Zealand’s share of the. British canteen funds is £18,588 19s Bd, plus the £30,000 albove referred to. The amount of the fund when handed over to the board was the amount received by the Treasury, being the balance of the N.Z.E.F. canteen and regimental funds up to the date of the inception of the board. This aggregated £71,821 19s 6d, being the total shown above, less the item ‘miscellaneous receipts’ received later.”
