Hawkca (Australia) beat Rennet (Canada) 8-6, 6(Received July 24, 11.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, July 23. The Hawkes-Bennett match at Toronto was meet sensational. Bennett’s work was most effective, but Hn.wkes’s returns, which were mast powerful, overpowered him. Bennett, knowing Hawkes’s propensities, smashed the high ones. Hie irvtfch was close and tense from, the beginning till the last ball. (Received July 24 11.5 p.m.> NEW YORK, Jnlv 23. Anderson defeated La Frambcrs. 4-6 7- 6-0, 6-1. (Received Julv 25, 12.15 a.m.) OTTAWA, July 23. The Andereon-La Frambcrs match offered spectacular features only in the first set, Anderson breaking ' through La Frambers’s ironclad defence during the second set with a fine display of cut strokes. La Frambcrs, after that, wan at Anderson’s mercy, the latter baffling the Canadian with every variety of strokes. PEACH NOT COMPETING. (Received Julv 23- 12.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 23. A Toronto message states that Milne broke two bones in his right hand in a practice match, and it is believed that he will be out of the senes. Norman Peach has announced that he will not participate in the Davis CVp games against Canada. No reason has be€n given for this statement.
