ALLEGED OVERSTAFFING. MINISTER’S REPLY. A reply to a complaint re the retention of a large number of civil servants in over-staffed offices has been received from the Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell) by the Chamber of Commerce. who took the matter up on behalf of Air J. Thornes. Parnell. Mr Thornes’s chief contention vm that Sir Francis Bell d,„ not intend to reduce the staff despite the fact that he was reducing the staff employed or public works.
The Alimster stated in his reply tha: he had no desire to comment on AT Thornes’s letter, but added, however that the staff employed ou public work woe increased and not reduced.
