OBITUARY
MAJOR-GENERAL SIR G. A. FRENCH. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 11, 8.40 p.m.) LONDON, July 11. The death is announced of MajorGeneral Sir George Arthur French, a former Commandant of the Forces in > Queensland and New South Wales. The deceased soldier, who was eighty years of age, bad a distinguished military career in Canada and Australia. He was decorated for services in Canada, and specially with reference to au expedition from Red River to the Rocky Mountains in command of the North-West Mrfunted Police in 1874. Ha was promoted for “distinguished wnric(s other than in the field’’ in , November, 1892.
