BOYS’ INSTITUTE

< THE CRICKET CLUB. A GREAT RECORD. The annual social of the above club was held this week and a large attendance of boys was present. Mr G. A. Troup (president), occupied the chair. A programme of musical items was rendered by Mrs Clarke (solo), Messrs McHaffie and Colvin (duet), Cunclifie (solo), and Hague (violin solo). The playing of the Institute Orchestra, under Mr iTemonger, was a treat, and the various items were loudly applauded. The director, Mr J. W. Butler, said that the cricket club bad had a most successful season, and they had established a record for the number of teams (14) taking part, in the championship contests. In the Boys' League division out of five possible championships the institute had secured three, and they were also runners-up in the other two, a performance of which they were justly proud. Mrs A. W. Parton, secretary of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, presented the cricket medals as follow; —Senior A: Eric Dave and Eddie Davies; senior (B), W. Lochore and W. Nichol: senior (C), A. Cleverly; junior (A), M. Beilby and N. Fordham; junior (C), W. Douglas;, junior (D), N. Noote; junior (E), S. BlAir and S. White; junior (Fj, L. Tofts; junior (G), A. Fallon; junior (H), L. Bolt. Mr C. Bary, headmaster Mount Cook School, presented the athletic prizes and congratulated the boys ou their success, the winners being:—Senior championship, H. Conway; intermediate, 'F. Dutch; junior, Bert Wickham, the latter being also the winner of a special gold medal donated by a member of the committee; boxing championship, senior, W. Hob‘son; intermediate, H. Ellis; junior, A. Cleverly; five miles harrier championship, G. Austin. The swimming prizes, presented by Mr C. S. Moore, were as - follow;—Senior championship and Ross Cup, S. Atkinson; intermediate, A. Humphries: junior, M. Jackson, diving championship, J. McMillian. During the evening the seven-a-aide medals, presented by the Rugby Union, were handed to the winners. A very enjoyable social was concluded with cheers for the president and the singing of the National Anthem.
