STAR MATCH FOR JURE 3 PETONE AND PONEKE TO MEET AT ATHLETIC PARK. INSURANCE FUND TO BENEFIT. The management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union met last evening. Mr J. Prendeville presided, and there were present also Messrs A. J. Griffiths, G. Jackson, W. W. Cook. A. H. Ward, W. Hardliam, H. McLeod’ F A. Laws, H. Buck, E. Perry, and J.’ A. Millard. I MOTOR CYCLING DURING MATCHES.

A complaint was made to the effect that while matches were being played at Miramar cycle races were sometimes in progress on the same ground. The secretary stated that the practice of cycling while matches were being played had been stopped. SPECTATORS ON THE FIELD. Complaint was made that th© referees had difficulty in keeping spectators oti the playing area at Kilbirnie. f Tho secretary stated that the director of reserves had arranged to have the ground fenced off by next Saturday with rope from the Kelburn tramway The cost would be about £25. and the union would be asked to pay about ,£5. Members considered the request for a contribution of .£5 not unreasonable. TO HELP INSURANCE FUND. The chairman mentioned an idea for playing a special match on Athletic Park on June 3rd—Poneke and Petone—and dividing the proceeds by giving 50 per cent, to the insurance fund and"the other 50 per cent, to be divided equally among the senior clubs for gymnasium purposes. He thought that if the union simply built up . the main fund they were not doing their duty. They should also build up the auxiliary funds. He thought they could reckon on four good outside matches during the season — Otago, Auckland, Southland, and Canterbury. In addition he had'every faith in the cup fixtures drawing big gates throughout the season. Mr G. Jackson thought the suggestion a good one. It would show the players that the union was prepared to do something for them. Mr H. Buck said he liked the idea, but doubted if the union could afford it. « ACCIDENTS NUMEROUS. Mr J. N Millard said improvements "ere badly needed at the Park, and it might be unwise to divert money from tho general fund so early in the season. Tho opinion of Mr A. G. Griffiths was that the idea was excellent, but that half the gate should go to the insurance fund, and the other half to the general fund. Accidents were numerous this year, and there would be a big call on the insurance fund before the season was through. ’ -He thought a charge of Is should be made.

After further discussion. Mr Griffiths moved that Poneko and Petone should be matched at th© Park on June 3rd, the charge to be‘ls, and the proceeds to be equnllv divided between the general fund- and insurance fund. The motion was agreed to, and it was also decided that a curtain-raiser should be played by Oriental and Marist. The Petone Band was given permission to plav at the ground on the occasion of th- match, and it was decidod to vote it £5. VARIOUS MATTERS. It was decided to meet the hospital account of Sydney Crawford, a St. Patrick’s College boy, who had a wrist b’-oken while playing on Suturday, April 30th. ; The New Zealand Union notified that We’-linvton’s challenge for the Ranfurly Shield had been approved. The entrv of a Petone seventh grndo team in the competitions was accepted. The onestion of the erection of a scoring board was referred to a sub-commit-tee to investigate and report.
