RIFLE SHOOTING

THE KARORI CLUB. SENIOR CADETS’ CONTEST. The Karori Rifle Club completed its competition for senior cadets last Saturday on the Trentham range, at ranges of 200 and 500 yards, seven shots at each range, when some 19 cadets turned out. The weather was not so favourable as the previous Saturday, the light being dull, and a fairly strong breeze prevailing, nevertheless some good shooting resulted. Sergeant S. Lines (59) put up a particularly good performance considering the weather conditions and shooting without slings, and over fixed sights: Cadet J. J. Jones being a good second with 55 up. The final result of the two days competition produced a very close finish, there being only six points difference between the first four competitors. Cadet J. J. Jones and Sergeant S. Line tied for first place with 110 points each. Cadet J W. Bertram coming third with 106, and Corporal C. D. Graham fourth with 104. Three shots were fired at the last range, 500 yards, to decide the tie, Cadet J. J. Jones proving the winner by the narrow margin of one point- (Cadet Jones 5,3, 3 —11), Sergeant S. Line coming second (Sergeant Line (2,5, .8 —10). Sergeant S. Line also won the fiTst of the three cash prizes presented by DeputyPresident J. Bertram for the best scores for the day’s shoot,'' Cadet J. J. Jones won the second, and Corporal C. D. Graham the third. Four trophies were donated by members for this competition. Cadet J. J. Jones, winner, of the competition, takes first prize (Mr A. Collins’s trophy yBl Is), Sergeant S. Line Second prize ( Mr W. E. Jackson’s £1 Is), Cadet J. W. Betrram third prize (Mr A. Caldwell’s trophy £1 Is), Corporal C. D. Graham fourth prize (Mr H. Preston's 10s 6d).
