SCHOOL COMMITTEES
ANNUAL MEETING OF .ASSOCIATION. MR. A. J. WHITE PRESIDENT. The annual meeting of the Sohool Committees’ Association was held last night at the Education Board offices, Mr A. G. Wallace presiding over a good ajgtendance. The annual report showed an increase from twenty-three to twentyfive in the number of committees affiliated. “July (adds the report) gaw the Dominion Conferenoe of Associations. If the Wellington, Association had not accomplished anything else, it would have done valuable work in this one direction alone.” The following reference was made to the new by-laws promised to the school committees as far back as 1910, but not yet forthcoming:—“ln December the hoard promised that the issue of by-laws would soon take place, so far they have not come to hand.” “We regret (states the report) to have to record the fact that strong opposition was shown to school committees by the N.Z.E.T. and we are convinced by late information, that the majority of teachers do not agree with the executive of the N.Z.E.T. in condemning sohool committees. On the contrary, we are satisfied that the majority of teachers are in accord with committees and try to help forward the children’s welfare.” The balance-sheet showed a balance at the hank of £29 6s 3d—receipts, £4O 7s 9d; expenditure, £ll Is 6d. The report and balance-sheet was adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—-President, Mr A. J. White; vice-presidents, Messrs Pilcher, Shetland, Wallace; hon. secretary, Mr Eyres; treasurer, Mr G. Startup; auditor, Mr Salmon.
