INFECTIOUS DISEASES
WELLINGTON DISTRICT OASES. The following cases of infectious disease were reported in the Wellington health district for the week ending May 9th. The corresponding figures for the previous week are given in parenthises: — Scarlet fever, 13 (17) —Waipawa, 1; Palmerston. North, 3; Wellington, 3; Wairarapa, 3; Nelson, 3. Diphteria, 21 (14) —Palluerston North, 2; Wellington 15 (6); Nelson, 4. Tuberculosis, 1 (3) —Wellington. Pneumonia, 1 (1) —Waipawa. Varicella, 1 (0) —Wellington. Pneumonic influenza, 1 (0) —Wellington. Septicaemia, 1 (0) —Wellington. Ophthalmia neonatorum, 0 (1). With reference to the increase in the number of cases of diphtheria, the medical officer of health (Dr I. E. Faris) stated that it was only what was to be expected with the cold weather.
